LASER FAQ’S

Will laser hair removal get rid of my hair permanently?

Laser Hair removal technology will reduce hair permanently by an average of 85% or more after a single course of treatment. This can vary from person to person and hair texture.

How many sessions are there in a course?

A course is ideally 8 sessions.

Why can't you get rid of the hair in one session?

Hair grows at different rates. To successfully treat the base of the hair follicle and cauterize the growth, the hair must be in the ‘Anagen’ or ‘Active’ stage of growth, and in order to capture this across a whole area – 8 sessions are calculated to be required to treat every individual hair.

How does laser work?

The laser is a directional light source that causes heat to build up in the target area. The light source used in professional lasers is attracted to your pigment that is present in your hair and skin. It is more concentrated at the root of the hair and therefore the directional beam is drawn straight to this area. The wavelength of the laser then determines the depth that it will travel into the skin- 805nm Diode is exactly the depth of an average hair follicle root.

Does it hurt?

No. Modern advanced technology ensures that your treatment will be comfortable and the chilling technique will reduce heat sensation, although to feel heat in the skin afterwards is normal.

Is Laser safe?

Yes, laser is safe to use for this purpose as long as the operator has been fully trained and is qualified.

How many treatments?

Laser hair removal will only treat the hair in the Anagen phase of growth, roughly 10-15% of the hair in any particular area will be at this phase at any time. Each treatment, 4-6 weeks apart will treat different hairs at this stage of their life cycle so you may see up to 10-15% reduction in hair per treatment. Most people will go for 6 to 8 treatments per area, possibly more for more resistant areas such as the face or private area.

Patch testing is essential.

It is important to patch test before a laser hair removal treatment, even if you have had laser hair removal at a different clinic before. The procedure allows the laser therapist to check that your skin is suitable for laser hair removal and will also give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. A general inspection of your skin will take place and then a small area of each part of your body you would like to treat will be exposed to the laser light. In addition to ensuring no adverse reactions occur, this also provides the clinic with the opportunity to tailor the machine’s settings to your personal requirements to ensure safety and treatment comfort.

Preparation is key

Apart from shaving, avoid any other hair removal methods such as waxing, threading, or hair removal creams for 6 weeks prior to treatment. Avoid sun exposure, sunbeds, or any kind of fake tan for 2 weeks. It is necessary to shave any area to be treated with laser to ensure the session is safe and effective. The optimal time to shave is around 8 hours before your appointment time.

This allows your skin time to calm down and any redness to fade while still leaving a smooth surface for the laser to treat. If the hair has not been shaved, the laser will mainly attack hair outside the skin. This will not be comfortable and could present an increased risk of side effects. This will also result in the treatment being ineffective
