Microdermabrasion

As we age, the automatic process of exfoliation and cell renewal slows down. Sometimes the body needs a little help. Diamond Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure in which the stratum corneum (dead outermost surface of the skin) is partially or completely removed by light abrasion. The removal of the dead skin cells reveals the softer more youthful looking skin cells underneath.

The procedure is not painful and requires no anesthetic.  Microdermabrasion can also be used to treat sun-damaged skin and to improve acne but must be repeated periodically to be effective.

We use a handpiece that rotates at different speeds on an elliptical axis. Instead of using exfoliating crystals, orbital abrasion utilizes a selection of disposable, abrasive treatment tips coated with a layer of silicon carbide to either superficially or deeply exfoliate the stratum corneum. The orbital rotation of the abrasive treatment tip performs a progressive and controlled skin exfoliation, It polishes and massages the skin at the same time. The speed of rotation, the abrasiveness of the treatment tip selected and the speed at which the handpiece is moved across the skin surface determine the depth of abrasion. This Crystal free treatment uses controlled orbital microdermabrasion to exfoliate and deeply cleanse the skin. The controlled removal of skin cells reveals more youthful looking skin and has a remarkable softening action on the surface lines and wrinkles.  Microdermabrasion with light therapy can also be used for treating sun-damaged skin and acne scarring.

In this type of treatment, dead skin cells are exfoliated and vacuumed off the face with a machine that uses tips covered in tiny diamonds. The diamond tips—together with the strong suction—make it possible to exfoliate the skin more thoroughly than other procedures. The flexibility of using different suction levels also increases blood flow to the skin, and that in turn helps to produce collagen. This procedure is regarded as an especially safe form of treatment. Not only that, but it is also known to be very effective on deep acne scars or old stretch marks.

What to Expect After Treatment

The skin may feel tight as if exposed to the sun or wind for a while after treatment. Keep the skin well moisturized with the proper products as advised by your therapist. Avoid sun exposure.

The skin will appear slightly red and swollen from a few hours to a few days for more sensitive skin. Some may experience peeling of the skin.

The skin will look red and may swell. Slight blood spotting may occur immediately after treatment and healing may take 3 to 4 days or longer. It is worth it for the results that you will experience.
